Transportation Funding Awarded in Northern Colorado

NFRMPO Planning Council Awards Federal Funds to

Projects in Northern Colorado

Fort Collins, Colorado— The North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization (NFRMPO) Planning Council, during its March 3rd meeting held at the Eaton Recreation Center, assigned over $16 million in anticipated federal funding to eighteen (18) regional roadway and transit projects, shown below.  The funding covers four upcoming years, from 2012 through 2015.

An official “Call for Projects” from municipal, county, and state agencies began on September 24, 2010.  Local governments submitted to the NFRMPO forty-eight (48) applications for projects for region-wide prioritization.  These amounted to $61.6 million in requests, competitively seeking the $16.4 million in anticipated funds from the Federal Highway Administration.

Project applicants were expected to cover up to twenty percent of the total cost of each project with local matching funds, if required.   In some cases, sponsors committed to providing more than the minimum required match, enabling their projects to receive higher scores.  When the sponsors’ local funds are added to the federal funds that were assigned, the estimated total amount to be spent on these eighteen projects is approximately $30.6 million.

Interdisciplinary experts served on project scoring panels convened by the NFRMPO.  They met during the first week of January to rank the projects, following guidelines established by the Council last September.  The NFRMPO’s two technical advisory committees reviewed the scores and made some adjustments before recommending to the Council the selections of projects.

After approving the lists of projects noted above, the Council adopted the 2012-2017 version of the NFRMPO’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), including these projects along with a number of other transportation programs and projects across the Fort Collins-Greeley-Loveland region that are set to receive state or federal funding from separate categories of funding.  The region encompasses adjacent portions of Larimer and Weld Counties along with ten smaller municipalities.
