Sub-Regional Study
NFRMPO - Eaton - Fort Collins - Greeley - Larimer County - Loveland - Severance - Timnath - Weld County - Windsor - Colorado Department of Transportation Region 4

The
North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization (NFRMPO) facilitated a
multi-jurisdictional study of growing volumes of traffic, particularly truck
traffic, on regionally significant corridors in the northeastern portion of the
North Front Range Transportation Planning Region. The “sub-regional” study area
is experiencing steady commercial and industrial development.
At the
conclusion of the study, a report entitled, Truck Traffic in the Northeastern
Quadrant of the NFRMPO Region, summarized the findings. The study resulted in two main products:
- a map of the area that assigns “Through Truck
Route” and “Local Truck Route" designations to existing roads and streets along
with some new or improved connections
- an informal commitment on the part of
officials from three municipalities (Windsor, Severance, and Timnath) and Weld
County to pursue some physical improvements and additions of directional signs
to Weld County Road 19 north of State Highway 392 so that it and a portion of Weld County
Road 74 can eventually serve as an alternative truck route to State Highway 257
between Weld County Road 74 (Harmony Road) and SH 392.
A third, less tangible
product has been the increased awareness of public officials and their staffs
about the transportation challenges that lie ahead as rural areas in this
region urbanize. One of the benefits of
the study was the increased level of communications that came about as the
staffs of the various communities discussed their common interests as well as
their disagreements about the current and future transportation system.
