HOUSEHOLD SURVEY RESULTS AVAILABLE
Fort Collins, CO – The North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization has released the Front Range Travel Counts Report on their website: www.nfrmpo.org. Over 1,500 households in the north Front Range area participated in the Front Range Travel Counts survey.
Front Range Travel Counts is an in-depth study of household travel behavior along Colorado’s Front Range, from Fort Collins to Pueblo. The NFRMPO is the first of the four participating Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) to complete their portion of the 12,000 household surveys to identify where and how each member of a household traveled on a specific, designated travel day (24 hours). The other MPOs include the Denver Regional Council of Governments, the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments, and the Pueblo Area Council of Governments. The Colorado Department of Transportation and the Regional Transportation District also are survey partners.
The Household travel diary surveys gathered data from households, about the trips that those particular individuals make on a specific day. The survey didn’t ask for opinions; it asked what people did. This enables transportation planners to tie individual and household characteristics to the trips actually made, seeing how, for instance, the number of automobiles a household owns or having small children in a household affects daily travel.
Data from the survey helps the MPO planners understand how people are really traveling and use that base to predict future travel. Travel modeling will reveal regional travel patterns and behavior which help our representatives make informed transportation decisions by evaluating and prioritizing different regional projects for federal funding.
If you have questions regarding the Household Survey, please contact Arvilla Kirchhoff of the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization at 970-224-6147 or akirchhoff@nfrmpo.org.
