From the Executive Director

Cliff Davidson

On behalf of the Planning Council and employees of the MPO, welcome to our website. The MPO plays a unique role in the lives of our residents, but one not often noticed by the general population. We are a federally-designated transportation planning organization and a state-designated air quality planning agency. Federal transportation funding to a region’s governments (local governments as well as the state department of transportation) requires the organization of an MPO whenever an urbanizing area reaches a population of 50,000 or more residents (as defined by the U.S. Census). In our case, this includes two urbanized areas in the North Front Range – the Fort Collins, Loveland, and Berthoud urbanized area in Larimer County and the urbanized area of Greeley, Evans, Garden City and LaSalle in Weld County.

Together with the many communities that lie between (Windsor, Johnstown, Milliken, Eaton, Severance and Timnath), the MPO is comprised of 15 member governments in total, including Larimer and Weld Counties. The MPO covers 675 square miles and is populated by approximately 400,000 northern Colorado residents.
Our mission is to provide information, analyses, plans and a forum for public input needed to improve the regional transportation system’s performance in the North Front Range, as well as its air quality.

The MPO’s Planning Council, the policy-making body for the organization, is responsible for setting policy and overall direction, as well as appointing an Executive Director who has the responsibility to implement the mission, goals and directives of the Council. The Executive Director also manages the day-to-day operations and program of the MPO, including the appointment of team leaders and staff, development of operational policies and procedures, and represents the MPO on federal, state and regional issues. The Executive Director is also responsible for utilizing MPO resources in the most effective manner possible.

This website is meant to help better serve the needs of the MPO member governments, and North Front Range residents. Your suggestions to the Executive Director are always encouraged.

Each month, the Executive Director writes an MPO Update that addresses an issue, responsibility or program the MPO is addressing.
